Transition Element
Pure titanium is silver-white in color, soluble in hot water and in sulfuric and hydrofluoric acids, and insoluble in cold water. The metal is extremely brittle when cold, but malleable and ductile at low red temperatures. Alloyed with aluminum and vanadium, titanium is used in spacecraft fire walls, navy hulls, docking-gear components, gravitic tubing, and engine supports.
